Bao Dim Sum (Kailua-Kona) * * * *   Posted by on Friday, 18 January 2019, at 12:13 p.m.

This is a great place for good "Asian inspired modern cuisine" as they describe themselves. This is my new lunch stop after my weekly shopping trip to Costco. They are located on the upper road above Home Depot. The green papaya salad is refreshing and filling and seasoned just right, the best I've had. Their steamed bao buns (manapua) are soft and tasty with generous fillings ($3 each or 3 for $8). The kay yuk buns with pork belly, pickled vegetables and hoisin sauce are a wonderful mix of savory and spicy (2 for $8). I always get the green tea matcha cooler, it is a very refreshing pick-me-up for my trip home. They have a chefs special every week and there are a lot more items on the menu that I have yet to try. Prices are very reasonable for the high quality and freshness of the dishes, $8.50 is the most expensive item. It is a small hole-in -the-wall place but there is adequate outdoor seating with umbrellas or you can take out. The service is friendly and fast, food is terrific, I love this place!
