Cataract surgery at Kaiser

I've had numerous eye surgeries over the years, cataract and other problems. Don't know if still the case, but the appts and surgeries then were at the Honolulu Clinic, not the hospital. Dr. Baum did all my work, he was the Top Eye Doc; glaucoma a specialty. Not a lot of bedside manner but very exact and detailed, thorough. Friends without other vision problems saw a diff doc for just cataract surgery. Dr. Baum wanted to do all my stuff. The staff and nurses were super friendly and helpful. Kaiser paid for me and my husband to fly over and all ground transport w/taxi vouchers. We stayed the night at the Ala Moana on our own dime. If flight arrangements needed to be changed, the clinic took care of it. Most of the time could leave earlier; but once later because Dr. Baum had emergency eye patient due to a car accident. I agree that it is not convenient to fly over and back, it isn't a joy ride; but you do see the best docs. We always went to the clinic early, and often the process or appt. began earlier too. This clinic also has Urgent Care, geriatrics, some other docs, and a pharmacy. My experience was 5 years ago and longer. So things and people may have changed. One thing, as with the hospital - bring a sweater, it is cool inside.
