Kailua-Kona and Kawaihae history

Sometime in the late 1950s or 1960s Kawaihae Harbor was created using dynamite and doing a lot of dredging. They created an entrance channel 40' deep and a harbor basin 35' deep. Can you imagine trying to do something like that today in Kailua-Kona?
