As someone who lives in northern California and has followed the ups and down of this in great detail for the last 6 months, let me offer this (unsolicited) advice. Don't spend too much of your time trying to figure out the spikes and dips and even the general trends that occur. It seems to defy all logic, both world wide and at the local level.
