Aloha, Friends!
Our wonderful island is focusing on keeping safe during the Coronavirus outbreak. COVID-19 is impacting many of our local businesses, including KONAWEB, but we are happy to be onboard with the required preventive measures. We will not be charging our advertisers until personal movement and travel are deemed safe.
On June 25, 2020, a statewide order from Governor Ige states that you must self-quarantine for 14 days upon arriving in Hawai'i. Beginning September 1, individuals with a valid negative test up to 72 hours prior to their trip will be exempt from the quarantine.
Be aware that others on your flight may not have opted to test early and may be infected.

Unsafe behavior may be reported to the DLNR at (808) 643-3567 or the COVID Hotline at (808) 935-0031.
We know that many of you are "addicted" to the KONAWEB live webcam at Kailua Bay, and use the Big Island Forum for current info. We will keep them up and running for you! The popular Big Island Calendar of Events will be on hold through August, at least.
Keep Hawai'i in your hearts, and we will LOVE to see you when the time is right!   -Konabob and Shirley
Those of you who are in a position to do so, may to help keep KONAWEB online.

In response to 144305: moving (rent vs buy), posted by Micah R on Wednesday, 22 July 2020, at 11:22 a.m.

Aloha Micah, You might consider signing up for my daily real estate newsletter called the UPdate; . The Daily UPdate is a unique service that I developed in 1995 specifically to help people who were planning to move to the Big Island but couldn't find all the information they needed in one convenient format. It includes new listings, price changes and sales for the previous 24 hours of real estate activity and covers land, homes, condos and businesses. Zillow's information is a computer generated algorithm. My information is compiled by me personally with data from the source; Hawaii Information Service MLS.

This will give you an idea of what prices are in the various areas, how long homes stay on the market before they sell, the difference between asking price and sale price and, from the photos, what the neighborhoods look like.

I have clients in town right now who are staying in four different areas over the next six weeks. They thought they would wait to make their decision but are finding that inventory is so low and houses are selling so fast, that they are reconsidering and may just buy something now after only having been here two weeks.

Most of my clients have been here on vacation one or more times, come on a buying trip for a week or two, buy, fly home and move over. Over the past 30 years a few have moved back to the mainland; mostly because grandkids came into the picture.
