Safety Inspection

In response to 144024: Registrations, posted by Mark S2 on Wednesday, 29 April 2020, at 5:56 p.m.

It is correct the State has temporarily suspended the requirement of inspections to renew vehicle registrations. However, I am confused by their logic.

Car repair/service centers are open (dealerships for sure) who are capable to do the inspections. Speaking to them, they say the "computer system" of the State to record the inspection and issue the decal is not available to them.

That is confusing, since the computer system for generating the vehicle registrations is working. Making some phone calls, I was told, "If we did the inspections, people would have to go out with their vehicle and interact with service people. But, since registrations can be done through the internet, mail, or the kiosks, we saw no reason to shut that down."
