Here’s what the County says:

In response to 143866: Beach Parks / Ocean Access, posted by Heloise L on Saturday, 21 March 2020, at 7:17 a.m.

Heloise,

It looks to me as if access itself is also kapu at this time. Here’s the announcement from the Hawaii County Civil Defense website:

Effective Saturday, March 21, 2020, all County of Hawai‘i beach and shoreline parks, public shoreline access easements, public open space shoreline and coastal lands, undeveloped county shoreline and coastal lands are closed to all access and uses until further notice.
All camping, pavilion and use permits associated with these affected lands are also cancelled or suspended until further notice.

“closed to all access and uses until further notice.” pretty much says it all, but adding “shoreline access easements” would also prohibit using those paths marked with “beach access” if I’m not mistaken.

Malama Pono!

Kevin Z
