In response to 143815: Kaiser or HMSA? (Kona/Kealakekua), posted by Steve KB on Thursday, 27 February 2020, at 9:17 a.m.

Before you make a decision, see what doctors are available to you if you use HMSA. Ali'i Health has terrific doctors, and my guess is they can meet your needs.
We have Kaiser and are quite happy with it, as they do find doctors. The doctor shortage is less of a problem now with Ali'i Health, and there are other docs in private practice, but consider that as you decide.
My husband had heart surgery some years ago. We chose to go to Oakland rather than have one of the Kaiser Honolulu surgeons perform the surgery, because the heart doc in Oakland with Kaiser had done so many of the surgeries my husband needed. Though since it was our choice we paid for the flight and hotel (tax deductible as medical expenses), Kaiser paid all medical and medication costs. It was a very good experience.
