monk seal slept all day on King Kam public beach

Very large monk seal, RA-20 (they are named by tag number) came out of water yesterday onto King Kam public beach, and slept there undisturbed all day. Went slowly and unself-consciously back into ocean after 6 pm. RA-20 is a female who gave birth to a pup last year, March 21, and is expected to give birth to another - April this year, I believe the local expert/protector said. She told us a great deal about this one and monk seals in general. RA-20 she said has two star shaped scars from "cookie cutter" sharks, which attack seals, whales and dolphins. I found out these sharks are very small, don't get over 20 inches long. I'd never heard of cookie cutter sharks before.

Huge thrill for me to see this seal sleeping on KING KAM BEACH without a by your leave, and I watched her leave at end of day. Posts were put out in a wide perimeter to protect both the seal and people. I do wonder if she'll be back today.
