Aloha Theater Going Out of Business

Sadly, it appears that the historic Aloha Theater is going out of business, as they are no longer booking future events. For those who aren't familiar with the theater, it is an iconic venue in South Kona devoted to performing arts. A revived x-rated Broadway play about therapy and body shaming is currently playing, to rave reviews. The theaters's demise will mark yet one another passing of cultural authenticity in West Hawaii. Some Konawebbers may remember the story about the adjacent Aloha Kona Angel Cafe, which was named after a devoted and widely cherished Konwebber who passed away at the same time that the cafe was opened. After her passing, I received an email from her son saying he was surprised to find in her desk drawer a file stuffed with printouts of my Konweb postings. She was missed then and will always be in our hearts.
