Papayas

I posted this question on Trip Advisor and did not get much info, so I'm trying here. I read on one of the Hawaii forums about some type of problems with papayas. I always wash fruit before eating, but something led me to believe that "just washing" wasn't enough. Google didn't help--never said what to use. Does anyone know about this? We will be on the BI in early December and looking forward to eating papayas. Thanks for any Info! HMH
