Powehi Black Hole Presentation
Two Mauna Kea telescopes were instrumental in creating the first photo ever of a massive black hole.
The community is invited to learn more about this remarkable achievement at a public forum on Friday, April 12 (this evening), at 6:00PM at the UH Hilo College of Hawaiian Language (113 Nowelo Street), just makai of Imiloa Astronomy Center. Participants include Jessica Dempsey, Deputy Directory of the East Asian Observatory/ James Clerk Maxwell Telescope; Geoffrey Bower, Chief Scientist for Academics Sinica (Taiwan) for the Submillimeter Array; Doug Simons, Executive Director of Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope; and Uncle Larry Kimura from the College of Hawaiian Language to talk about the Hawaiian naming.
