Old furniture disposal

We treated ourselves to a new sofa and are challenged getting rid of the old one. It's a two-piece sectional, not in terrific shape. I have posted it for free on Craigslist, got 5 responses but nobody followed up. We are going to offer it to Habitat but aren't sure they will want it.

We understand that if we try to take it to the dump, we will have to first cut it apart (!?) into four-foot pieces. Is this true? What do folks in Kona do to get rid of old furniture? Thanks!
