Too bad net metering ended

Big mistake in my previous post! That gen I bought was $600, not #6000! At the time Costco brought in something like 76 of them, and they all sold out in 3 weeks!! I also had an electrician friend of mine wire up my main electrical box outside with a socket, so I can plug my generator directly into the house for near-full power in an extended outage...after going through a checklist of pre-cutover things to do.
Ours is a 20 panel system, which turned out to be just right. Not too much or too little solar power generated to offset the Helco bill.
Another funny thing about the net metering contract is that they will charge about $21/month for a meter on the wall, even if none of their electricity was used. However, in situations where I use a few KWH's more than I have in my "bank", they charge for those KWH's instead of, rather than as well as, my minimum meter bill.
Therefore, I receive bills for anywhere between $7 - $11, rather than the $21. In total, my annual payment to Helco is around $220.
