There's a good chance that with the magma drained away from the two sources of vog before this episode, the Kilauea caldera and Pu'u O'o, the vog could be much lower than before after the current activity in the Lower East Rift Zone ceases.

The USGS has noted that after magma drained from the summit 1n 1924 there were occasional ash eruptions from Halema'uma'u crater for awhile followed by a many year quiet period.
