The only good places to stay on a vacation to this island now, and for the foreseeable future, are the Kohala Districts and over to Hilo. I'd stay away from North Kona, South Kona, Kau, and Puna Districts. I live in South Kona a few miles north of the Kau District border at the 950 ft elevation and it's quite visibly voggy here at my place, dubbed Voggy Acres for the foreseeable future.

Fortunately for us, I have no reason to go outside (until June 4th, when a Kaiser appt forces me to town) and have fantastic air filters which chemically scrub the SO2 and H2S out of the air, making my indoor world quite livable compared to right outside the door. Trapped inside my "Pleasure Palace", or "Velvet Prison", on "house arrest" for a while.

On the Dept of Health scale of "green - yellow - orange - red - you're gonna die", Kona is on the line between orange and red. Ocean View is on the line between yellow and orange. Hilo is in the middle yellow band, but was solidly in the green for the last few days.

You Kohala Resort Area vacationers, come on down!! You'll get fantastic sunsets!! Just don't stray far from your resort properties. When you leave the airport, turn left and don't look back! Take a cab. You won't need a rental car, anyway!
