We decided to give Patz Pies a try for breakfast this weekend. The interior was pretty plain, with a wooden floor and TV on the wall - what you'd expect for a pizza place. We seated ourselves outside on the deck, where a lovely breeze was blowing.
Our waitress was friendly and responsive, but was not aware of the daily specials, and had trouble remembering who had ordered what. Although she seemed inexperienced, her warmth more than made up for it.
The breakfast menu was pretty standard. One item I'd never seen before was Ahi Benedict, two pieces of ahi served on a split English muffin, topped with poached eggs and Hollandiase sauce. Very tasty. Someone else in our group had the Loco Moco, which, as might be expected, was huge. He said it was good, but not the best he'd had in Kona.
The choice of sides was limited to white rice or potatoes. The potatoes were seasoned too generously with herbs, but were still OK. I really would have liked a non-starch option, but at least the potatoes gave me something with which to sop up every last drop of the Hollandaise sauce.
The coffee was not good, probably because it was too weak. I was glad I had the P.O.G. instead.
Overall, Patz Pies was an OK, but not fabulous, place for breakfast, which is served from 9:00 to 11:00 am Mon. - Sat., and 9:00 to noon on Sun. Prices seemed typical for this area. I would go back.
