We have good to excellent Thai cusune in the Kona district and good Japanese restaurants, but I have been very disappointed on restaurants specializing in Chinese cuisine. However, The Pake Bowl, a small, well appointed casual restaurant has a wonderful kitchen. Although not exactly Chinese in a traditional sense, it has a varied menu with a Hong Kong influence, although they prepared the best katsu I have had on the island.
It is in a strip center off Kuikini behind and to the south of the Big Island grill. If you like northern Asian cuisine, please give this new restaurant a try. My only complaint is that the portions are so big that I have to have the same thing the next day for lunch.
