We just had a terrific lunch at the lounge in the Royal Kona Resort. The whole hotel was looking unusually spiffy and the view as usual was da best. The Bay was full of Ironmen and LOTS of dolphins, who leapt and spun for the whole two hours we were there.
The service was fine, from the manager who greeted us warmly to the server, who gave us plenty of attention and seemed happy to do so. For me, the high point was definitely the sweet potato fries -- a giant mound of very crisp, hot, delicious fries served with an addictive white sauce (maybe mayo?) with lots of ginger. At the end of the pile, the wax paper under the food was not greasy at all. These are going to be a fixture in my life from now on!
The menu, which is available till 9 p.m., should have something for everyone -- lots of pupus, salads, hot sandwiches, fish tacos etc.
We shared a very nice, huge Caesar salad and a good burger, also enormous. Water to drink. The bill for two, before tip, was $24, reasonable to me because the food and service were genuinely good and the view is amazing.
