We love Thai food, but after having tried a few of the local Thai restaurants when we arrived 4 years ago, settled on Orchid Thai in the old industrial area as our favorite go back to Thai restaurant. We tried to go last night for dinner, but to our dismay found it was closed until July 30.
We decided to try Thai Rin instead. We parked in the parking lot behind the Alii Sunset Plaza and I was a bit alarmed to see all the signs warning that it was reserved for patrons of that plaza and that trespassers would be towed. I was very relieved to find that Thai Rin is indeed in the Alii Sunset Plaza, along with Lava Java, U Top-It, etc.
The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating with the same beautiful ocean view that Lava Java next door has. The service and food were excellent, with the owner or servers coming by frequently to ask how everything was. We tried the Spring Rolls ($5.95), Green Papaya Salad ($5.95), Mee Krob($8.95?), and Rama with chicken ($9.95). The Mee Krob is a dish which kind of reminds me of stir fried rice crispies. Actually, the rice noodles are cooked in oil till they puff up and then mixed with a sweet sauce. My husband loves it. Order it as an appetizer for 4 people as it won't save well. The Rama was declicious -- steamed mixed vegetables topped with chicken and peanut sauce.
We'll definitely try this restaurant again.
