Roadhouse (Kainaliu) * * * *   Posted by on Monday, 6 July 2009, at 4:07 p.m.

Easy to miss, because it is small, but hard to forget because the food is sooooo flavorful and unique, the Roadhouse is a one-of-a-kind place that should be on everybody's "lunch list". Located in the little town of Kainaliu, just across the street and a stone's throw south of the Aloha Theatre, this little mom and pop place features home made soups, one of a kind sandwiches and wonderful desserts made right there in house. Today, I had a home made Turkey & Veg Pie - savory and delicious, and a cup of rich, White Clam Chowder. The pie came with a small sides of green salad and macaroni salad. The soup came with a homemade roll & butter. Shirley ordered a Thai Sweet Chili Chicken Sandwich which she loved - very tasty, w/"pulled" chicken (so flavorful, but not "spicy hot"). It came with a side of macaroni salad and pickles. We splurged and also ordered a slice of moist, homemade carrot cake w/cream cheese frosting to go. We could barely finish our lunches and the cake went home with us for later. The whole meal for both of us, with beverage & tip included, was under $25. The counter service by owner/baker Cathy, is friendly and fast, and the place has the small town feel that puts you at ease. You can also dine outside under umbrellas, although the road is right there beside you.
Open only from 11 AM till 4 PM, Monday through Friday.
Shirley and I will be back often!
