Mi's Italian Bistro (Kealakekua) * * *   Posted by on Wednesday, 10 June 2009, at 4:49 p.m.

To break up the end of the year chores associated with closing a school library for the summer, I took myself to Mi's and treated myself to one of the lunch specials.

For just $13.50, the diner can choose two courses from the lunch menu.
The first choice is between Minnestrone Soup or a green or Caesar Salad. I ordered the Caesar Salad which was large and delicious, although I carefully pushed aside the anchovy that decorated it.

For the second course, one had a choice of Pasta with Italian Sausage, Spaghetti with meatballs, or a Beef Lasagne. The lasagne was delicious--covered with lots of cheese and thick, spicy, chunky tomato sauce served piping hot in an oval dish.

The restaurant on a rainy Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. was not crowded at all and service was great.

This is a good place for dinner also (see Konabob's review below). The dinner prices are moderate, but beware--what will jack the price up is ordering a bottle of wine for dinner and a couple of Mi's great desserts. Rich Flourless ChocolateTorte with a dark chocolate Genache or Banana Rum Flambe come to mind.

The restaurant, at 81-6372 Mamalahoa Hwy. #103 is open from Tuesday-Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. If headed south, it is on the left and hard to spot as it is hidden by bushes and up the sidewalk from the convenience store. Phone 323-3880 for reservations or directions.
