Huggos on the Rocks on Alii Drive is our favorite place to take visiting guests or just ourselves when we want to relax with an in-your-face dynamite ocean view, sand under our toes, inexpensive drinks and live Hawaiian music and Hula.
We arrived a little after 5 p.m. this past Friday evening to be sure we could secure a table by the ocean edge. (Not to worry--it would have been possible even later.)
Happy hour wine and beer is $3 a drink between 5-6 p.m --so we managed to order 2 drinks each before the deadline. We split a chicken quesadilla as well as a small bowl of potato salad and an order of shrimp skewers. Although there were only 4 big shrimp per order, the skewers were served on top of an ample plate of salad greens which rounded out our meal very nicely. The total cost was a little over $39 without tip.
I list this as "a great place for a special occasion" which does not mean it has to be fancy or expensive. We chose to go there to enjoy a romantic setting for our anniversary last year.
