Superferry's only ship has been sent back to Alabama and 200 employees laid off. The company hopes to use it in another location after deciding not to wait the year it would take to receive the necessary environmental impact reports to continue operation. Environmental opposition to the Superferry cited concerns about whales, increased vehicle traffic and increased likelihood of transporting invasive species between islands.
