If you are here to experience the uniqueness of the Big Island, then by all means you must stay on the Hilo side and spend at least one full day at the volcano. You can take a helicopter tour out of Hilo, but the best experience is to go to the park and walk around the various trails. Then head over to the viewing area on the east side where you may get lucky and see lava flowing close-up. I second the suggestion of the Hawaii Botanical Tropical Gardens -- you could a half day there. If you are there on a Wednesday or Saturday, go to the farmer's market in downtown Hilo.

Lots of people have recommended the Palms Cliff House bed and breakfast. Check out their webiste -- looks like a wonderful place.

Enjoy your honeymoon!
