In response to 40655: first time visit to Hawaii on our honeymoon from Europe, posted by Pete F on Wednesday, 4 November 2009, at 6:30 a.m. With only three days on the Big Island, I'd suggest flying into Hilo from Honolulu and spending the three days on the east side of the island. It's almost impossible to experience the entire Big Island in just three days. Driving around the island without stopping takes about 7 hours, so you simply won't be able to see it all. So don't try. Based on your desires, fly into Hilo and stay at a bed and breakfast in Hilo or around the Volcano. Helicopter tours are available from the Hilo airport. Plan to spend one full day at the Volcano, and spend another day exploring Hilo and the Hamakua coast. (Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden would be a good choice.) Add in some sightseeing in Puna, and you've got a pretty full three days. It'll give you the max amount of enjoyment of the natural scenery for your investment of time. Responses:
