Bunch of new PurpleAir sensors on west side
A bunch more PurpleAir sensors went online on the west side of Hawaii the last 3 days. Looks like DoH is putting them up at schools. Plus a couple private ones. Probably of most interest to visitors is the new one at the Mauna Lani resort. There is also one at Konawaena HS, which is also where the EPA sensors for "Kona" are.
As mentioned earlier (Rich E2?), these are just PM2.5 sensors (actually, 0.3 and 10u as well) and not SO2, SO4, H2SO4 sensors. However, we have not gotten enough SO2 to trump PM2.5 for the AQI, and PM2.5 is what the EPA is reporting for AQI at AirNow.gov. Having the PA $200 sensor in the same area as the $30,000+ Fed sensor in Konawaena gives a good idea of how big of a "grain of salt" to apply to the other PA sensors.
No ties to PA other than I bought one and put one up at my house. I'm a mild asthmatic and I could tell that the numbers coming from Konawaena were out of whack with up here in Kalaoa.
