Don't bother to fix it

Very true. Items like toaster ovens are throw away appliances. They are so cheap that any attempt to fix them makes no sense. If the elements are broken then it probably would be impossible to fix because the manufacturer doesn't supply parts anymore. These days we make a lot of things that have a limited lifetime and replacement is cheaper than the fix.
