All of West Hawaii is choking today. Visibility is 20 feet. It's impossible to see the ocean even from an oceanview room at any resort. Guests at the Four Seasons and the Hilton Waikoloa are posting on the internet that they are engulfed in fumes. Even at 2,000 feet above Kona, the toxic fumes are so thick it's impossible to see to the end of the street. A Safeway cashier told me her chickens have choked to death. I have photos of the toxic fumes inundating my property. Arriving tourists without any previous respiratory conditions are ending up in emergency care centers after being assured it "was totally safe" to visit. Our authorities and the hospitality industry have a lot to answer for. It's time to stop the dishonest and unethical pretense that "everything is fine right now." As Voltaire penned, "That is our illusion, and our demise, that every thing is fine right now."
