cleaning ash from lanai and cars

aloha everyone,

Down here in Ka'u (HOVE) we've been covered in ash since the eruption. It's pretty stubborn stuff to clean up, and I don't want to take a rag or sponge to the surface of the car for fear of scratching (I'm assuming the ash is a fine abrasive like glass or silica).

Hosing seems to work until the surface of the lanai/car dries, but then I realize very little was actually sprayed off.

Is there some type of soap/solution I should use to help lift the ash as I spray it down?

Many thanks and mahalo!

Δ by covered, I mean a very fine dusting!
