Safe to travel to Big Island
In response to 142157: News flash the end of the world is near!!!, posted by Ronald HM on Tuesday, 22 May 2018, at 9:35 a.m.
The recent eruption is 90 miles from Kona, and there is a 13,600 foot mountain range in between. Volcanoes National Park has closed the main Kilauea caldera and the eastern side of the park, but other areas of the park remain open. Helicopter and "lava boat" tours are operating. If you travel to VNP or the southeastern edge of the island, you will want to check the weather report for the wind direction: http://mkwc.ifa.hawaii.edu/vmap/hysplit/animate.cgi?domain=bigis&variable=so2
Here is a real time air quality report about SO2 on Hawaii Island
