I had terrible luck with Allstate so I understand and never had a claim.
If you served in the Military you need to look into USAA. I was not in the military but when I got hit in the rear they were great about paying really fast and I have heard that they are quite reasonable about other things.
Otherwise we had a friend that totaled her car last month and GEICO did a good job and paid a really fair market value for the vehicle.
I use Metropolitan but you need a special relationship for them to do Hawaii and they return some premium if their costs that year are low. Payment has been fast and fair.
The problem is you pay your premiums and you don't know if the choice is good until something happens. The state does supply info on rates and they are all over the map depending upon how they feel and your driving history.
