Living rural on the BI has so many benefits

I can attest to that, as well! We had a beautiful house in the Chicagoland country on 1.3 acres, and the tax was something like $6K, and that was 17 years ago!
Now, we have a beautiful house in South Kona on 5.6 acres with an unobstructed 180 degree view of the ocean, a "private" oceanfront with lock-accessed road, virtually no neighbors, and my tax this year, for the first time in 14 years, exceeded $900. It was as low as $813 in the early years...maybe lower.
So little to pay for so much. Being zoned AG-5 helps, even though I don't have to grow any crops. It it were zoned residential in North Kona, I'm sure my taxes would be incredibly higher, probably more than what I was paying in Chicagoland.
Location, location, location...
