In response to 141815: 4DR Wrangler convertible rental availability, posted by Peter F14 on Thursday, 1 March 2018, at 6:22 a.m.
Personally, when I rented car here on the islands (over 30 times) I avoided soft tops (convertibles) completely.
First, with the possibility of rain at almost any time at various places, especially on the Big Island, I see a lot of visitors along the side of the road putting up and taking down the top. Seems to be a waste of time.
Then, for visitors not used to Hawaii, just one word... sunburn!
The third reason is that, in my opinion, rental cars look very new and washed and waxed; unlike local vehicles. There is a lack of bumper stickers and other local things. A soft top is easy to cut and take items from the vehicle compared to one where they have to break the windows, etc. I don't have any stats on whether this is a problem, but it is the reason I avoid these.
