Recently I renewed my drivers license. There were a couple of documents needed that I did not have handy. These are used to verify your residency here and to qualify for the new licensing requirements for travel documents.
I needed a physical address. I live on a farm and rarely use the physical address, let alone have a document with it on it. In fact, my cable and electric bill show different addresses a street away, because that is where the poles are. I had to make a quick trip to the property tax office (also located in the Kona complex) and they printed a tax bill for me.
Then I realized the DMV also wanted to see my Social Security card, which was home in the safe. As I was ready to leave and come back another day, I saw that my Medicare card had my SS number on it, and they accepted that. HOWEVER, that will soon change as SS numbers are being replaced on Medicare cards with a random number.
So if renewing or deciding to apply for a Hawaii Drivers license, check that you have all the documents you need.
