Take the time and get multiple quotes

It all depends upon how much stuff you have that you have that needs pads. You need to get bids from a number of professional moving companies. The best ones will come to your place and give you a good estimate. If you just get a bid over the phone/online it will probably be very excessive. If you get a quote from someone who comes to you they can tell you if you really need a 40' container or something less (or more). Containers come in multiple sizes not just 40'. They don't charge for these estimates.
I actually had the best luck loading the stuff myself (I did both). There a lot of companies that will help you load the trailer if you need that. I got recommendations from UPACK (a division of ABF) for people to help move and they really knew their jobs and only took 1/2 a day to move about a 20' containers worth. You wouldn't believe how fast and hard they can work!!! I got tired just watching them do the packing.
If you do it yourself you will need a LOT of boxes and bubble wrap. You won't need pads for this but you will need pads or plastic wrap for furniture. You may need tie down straps too. It doesn't take as many pads as you think.
You will probably want to pack some stuff yourself in any case.
Δ Good way to figure it out..
