15 years ago I used USPS

When I moved here 15years ago, I shipped about 30 boxed via USPS. Some were media mail but most were just shipped as packages (up to 50 pounds each). I notified the local PO here that they were coming and included a local phone number they could call to have someone pick them up. This is because they could take 30 to 45 days to get to Hawaii from Georgia. They get shipped across the country, then wait for a container to be filled when it is then loaded on a ship and pointed towards Hawaii.
The PO here appreciated me telling them in advance there was an armada of packages headed their way and the way to notify pickup, because they said they have little room to store things.
I seem to remember that the boxes cost about $50 each ($1 a pound) but I may be wrong.
The only boxes which got damaged were ones I did not pack properly and were heavy and the weight off center.
