Global Entry and TSA Precheck
In response to 141215: Turo doesn't look cheaper, posted by Ronald HM on Thursday, 10 August 2017, at 10:44 a.m.
Just want to add one thing about Global Entry and TSA Precheck. Both of them only make you "eligible" for Precheck, they don't guarantee it. I will say that both my husband and I have gotten Precheck on 100% of the flights we've taken WHERE THE AIRPORTS AND AIRLINES HAVE PRECHECK, since we got Global Entry. However, our daughter who also has Global Entry and United preferred did NOT get Precheck on a one way flight she took from the U.S. to Canada.
The cost of Precheck is $85 for 5 years. For Global Entry it's $100 for 5 years. For us the small difference in price over the 5 year period, and knowing we would be visiting our daughter in Canada, made it worthwhile to get Global Entry. Another big consideration is where you need to go for the interview. There seem to be more places for TSA Precheck than for Global Entry.
The only center for Global Entry application interviews is in Honolulu. TSA Precheck has four locations - Hilo, Wailuku, Lihue and Honolulu.
Δ PreCheck lines long at Kona.
