Healthcare on the Big Island is a challenging situation no matter where you live. Chronic disease management is mostly done at the primary care level and if you have co-morbidities from these wait times for a specialist are 45-60 days out from a PCP referral.
South Point healthcare is somewhat spotty, with a PA or FNP managing most patients at the primary care level. Physicians, most DO's rotate through from Hilo as does the DDS staff for dental.
if you have minimal healthcare issues you will most likely be fine. The question goes back to you, can you effectively self manage and mitigate through most health care issues or in your 60's are there co-morbidities that need the specific attention of a physician on a timely basis. Only you can answer that question.
