In response to 140836: Activities with 13 yr. old granddaughter, posted by Phil E on Tuesday, 11 April 2017, at 5:43 p.m.
Dinner with the locals? :-)
Actually I would ask if she would like to see the zoo (near Hilo) with the tigers.
Perhaps walk/ride to the lava flow.
There is a great trail ride in Waipio Valley and even people who do not ride will probably enjoy the ride and valley and waterfalls. The trial ride is essentually leting the hose do the work and you sit :-)
When my worker wanted to see the island, I took him up the upper road to Waimea, Waipio Valley Overlook, Kahuna/Akaka Falls, the zoo and Kalapana to ride to the flow. On the way back we stopped at Kens in Hilo for a snack and I drove back over Saddle Road.
Another trip we went south to South Point, walked to the green sand beach (next time I'll use my 4-wd truck), then a quick drive to the black sand beach (turtle viewing). My worker complained because we left there early so I relented and headed to Kens again then back over the Saddle.
