I compared my tax bills
In response to 140797: Hawaii More Expensive?, posted by Harry Pritikin on Monday, 3 April 2017, at 8:55 a.m.
Thanks, Harry! I just pulled up the tax bills from my house in Illinois and my condo in Kona. The tax rate in Kona is 37.8% of the tax rate in Illinois! I'm 8 years out from retiring and moving to Kona. I'll trade more expensive cereal and milk any day for living in one of the few places where mother nature doesn't actively hate people - never shovel snow, never worry if the car can make it out of the driveway due to ice or snow, never scraping snow off of the windshield or off the wiper blades, never stepping outside in the summer when it is 95 degrees and 85% humidity and the TV warning you and the danger of heat stroke for going outside. And save on taxes while doing it!
