I recently had to ship some exercise equipment from a residence on Maui to the Bis Island. Here was my experience.
My first thought was I need someone to pick up the equipment and get it to the dock to Young Brothers. I had problems finding someone so with time being short I contacted a well-know moving company. Their name is not important as I didn't use them. However, they quoted me the following:
2 Men / Truck - $139.39 per hour minimum 2 hours
Then Young Brothers would charge about #200 to ship to Kawaihae.
Their reviews are pretty good and they are professional but that quote was way too much. Plus they could not arrange a good time to meet my seller because he gives tours and his schedule keeps changing.
Someone told me their friend shipped exercise equipment interisland from Honolulu and they used Aloha Airlines Cargo.
I was able to get someone to pick up the equipment from the seller (he charged $150 for that and the 5 mile trip to the airport) and Aloha charged $205. They palletized it and offered same day or 3 day delivery. I chose 3 day for a savings.
I drove to Aloha Air Cargo today and the equipment was loaded on a pallet into my truck. They had used shrink wrap and a single pallet with one longer piece separate.
I am a happy camper!
By the way, I also considered flying round trip to Maui and renting a car to take it to the airport myself, but this was cheaper.
