Excise Tax is not that bad
In response to 140796: Sorry Harry but you Neglect the Hi GET on Everything, posted by Mark T2 on Monday, 3 April 2017, at 7:47 a.m.
The state we moved from had higher Sales Tax than the GET Rate - granted it didn't apply to every purchase - but it was an administrative nightmare for small businesses, e.g. Pizza delivered to that town was a different rate than pizza delivered out of town, etc.
The 4% GET tax (higher on Oahu) is applied to almost every transaction, but the GET RATE for a wholesale transaction is only .5%.
The GET tax does not apply to goods or services delivered out-ot-state.
And when we purchase goods from the Internet or a Catalog, we should have been self-assessing ourselves an equivalent Use Tax; granted the State of Hawaii never made it easy to report this self-assesssed Use Tax (most states include a line on the Personal Income Tax Form, but not Hawaii). So now you can quit self-assessing a USE tax on Amazon purchases, because now Amazon will collect the GET tax for you. Some sarcasm here, but no leeway for whining.
