In response to 140793: Retirement, posted by Jim L3 on Sunday, 2 April 2017, at 8:40 a.m.
Hawaii doesn't tax government pensions. All out-of-state government pensions qualify for the pension exemption. The total exclusion may not be more than indicated from all exempt sources. However, Social Security/Railroad Retirement income not taxed by the federal government is not added back to adjusted gross income for state income tax purposes.
The Big Island probably has the best property tax structure for residents in the country. The older you get the better. It's too long to explain here but you will find a lengthy explanation with links to County websites at my website: http://www.konarealestateagent.com/hawaii-county-property-taxes.htm
