Yes, it WAS the forcasted high afternoon surf/wind conditions that set the ship sailing this morning.

We had some friends on that boat and had planned on picking them up and driving them all over
the west side today. They're getting "up in years", plus the expense, may make this their last visit here.
Very dissappointing, we had been planning this a long time, but safety first. The cruise line
did the right thing.

It was calm this morning but they couldn't risk having 2000 people stuck on shore and unable
to get back on the boat this afternoon.

By the way, we picked them up in Hilo yesterday and took them up to Hawaiian Volcanos.
Things were bubbling quite nicely there in the Halemaumau caldera.

We also drove up to Akaka Falls, but we were SHOCKED, at all the wind damage and
destruction that has happened there. Many huge, old trees, GONE. Laying there.
It looked like a bomb went off.
Most of the trail/walk was closed to access.
Very sad. It's all open up now. You can see the top of the falls from the parking lot !
The waterfall of course was still in all it's glory.
