Darks skies plus beach options...

Atro photos combining dark skies with shoreline foregrounds are probably much better along "red road" in Puna that has many public accesses close to the road including county/state parks. Isaac Hale has camping & so likely no hours restrictions. MacKenzie State Recreation area a little south down the road is probably good as well. Prevailing tradewinds from the NE mean better dark skies free of vog as a rule. We saw stunning views when hiking the road between parking and the pubic viewing area used to view the lava flow - end of highway 130 in Kalapana. You also have really easy access from Uncle Robert's Awa Bar & Farmers Market in Kaimu on Wednesday nights with a one-of-a-kind party to boot. Arrive early, and park near the "official landing site for extraterrestrials". A short walk over a lava field gets you to the shoreline. But the
