Ocean View/HOVE and crime
Good morning everyone,
My girlfriend and I arrive next week to begin the next chapter of our lives on the Big Island! Belongings (mostly) packed, tickets purchased and our savings transferred to our new BoH account. Having lurked here for quite some time, plus monitoring other resources such Harry's emails have definitely helped us along as we prepared for our move the last 9 months.
We've slowly moved our sights south of K-K and down into Ocean View as far as affordability for buying... we could technically afford to buy an entry level home in Kona, but it would make things a little tight. HOVE is more aligned with our budget, even considering the 60+ minute commute.
So I'd been tentatively planning on looking at more properties in HOVE, until I read this:
Can anyone shed any light on this, pro or con?
I realize this is 'konaweb' :) but was hoping the general proximity to HOVE would mean there are some members here familiar with Ocean View.
I know there are no guarantees. I know that certain property tax brackets can attract certain demographics. And I know that things like buying a property with clean lines of sight with other homes (not blocked by trees, etc), fences, motion sensors, a dog, and just plain getting out there and getting to know your neighbors and being active and visible can help with staying safe and happy.
Any comments on crime and life in general in Ocean View?
mahalo and see you next week!
